Scribbles on Speeches

Surviving a PhD in Theology

Home

This blog is my own personal cheerleader to keep me motivated throughout my PhD in Theology. I’m pretty new to the blogging scene, but through my posts, I hope to share my research and discoveries to others, including my discoveries about the PhD itself! It is a strange new world I find myself in with surprisingly little information so I figured I’d share my journey so that others may find it a little less bewildering. The focus of my thesis is the wonderful Friedrich Schleiermacher and his little book entitled On Religion: Speeches to its Cultured Despisers or more informally the Speeches. I hope that my research can ultimately show the relevancy of this text in today’s theological issues surrounding religious pluralism and diversity.

Please don’t run away, I’m not a religious nut! I’m an enigma really- a theology student who isn’t remotely religious…but then I suppose that depends on how you define religious…but that’s an issue for a later date. Anyhow, by scribbling about the Speeches and my PhD journey I simply hope to keep myself focused and if just one blog is useful or interesting to one of you out there, then hey, that’s a bonus!
